9:37 PM: Minnesotans make rally family affair
For the Martins of St. Paul, Minn., Tuesday's rally was a family affair.
Nick and Rachel brought their 3-year-old daughter, Frances, and 1-year-old son, Earl, with them. They left St. Paul about 11 a.m., arrived in Madison about 3 p.m. and got into line before 4 p.m.
The doors didn't open until after 6 p.m., but the family was lucky enough to be among those who got to wait inside with temperatures in the teens outside.
Nick is a Wisconsin native who now works on climate change issues at Winrock International, a nonprofit, while Rachel is a California native and nursing student.
"We just really think he's going to change the country," Nick said.
He noted Obama has already won Minnesota and said the couple plans to work in western Wisconsin over the weekend organizing Obama supporters.
Frances has picked up on her parents' discussions about Obama and talks about him herself.
"She understands that it's important to us," said Nick, who hoped to make it most of the way back to St. Paul Tuesday night.
