8:19 PM: Mason gives Obama a hand in Racine

State Rep. Cory Mason was an early member of the Obama bandwagon, announcing his support publicly way back in February of last year. So it should be no surprise that when Obama made plans to come into Wisconsin, the Racine Democrat was on his shortlist when it came to helping pull together events in southeastern Wisconsin.

Mason helped to build crowds for the Illinois Senator's events in Racine. The stops included an event at Gatewway Technical College, where some footage was shot for a potential campaign commercial.

"What was great about Obama coming to town was there were several venues where he talked with different members of the community," Mason said.

At one planning event, Mason said he was surprised at the number of new faces he saw.

"Person after person said they had never volunteered on a campaign before," he said. "You have to really respect the power of the Obama campaign to reach out to people who don't normally engage in the political process."

Mason said he became an Obama fan after reading his book, "The Audacity of Hope."
