3:12 PM: Kind says his super delegate vote will go to 3rd CD winner
U.S. Rep. Ron Kind, D-La Crosse, vowed this afternoon to give his super delegate vote to the Democratic candidate that carries the 3rd Congressional District in the presidential primary. But, he also sent a letter to Democratic National Committee chairman Howard Dean asking him to fix the nominating process to "ensure its integrity and encourage greater participation."
"Democrats are in a tremendous position going into 2008, with two strong candidates and a party that has never been more engaged," Kind said in a press release. "I believe, however, that the high-caliber of this year's candidates has clearly revealed the shortcomings of our party's nomination system. The use of 'Super-Delegates' is an anachronism in modern politics, providing - at best - an appearance of unfairness, and - at worst - a mechanism for thwarting the will of the voters. That's why as a super-delegate myself, I will follow the will of the voters in the Third Congressional District and pledge my support to their presidential choice."
