5:27 PM: Kasten backs McCain

Former U.S. Senator Bob Kasten of Wisconsin has endorsed John McCain for president.

"Through his brave his service to this country in the U.S. Navy and the U.S. Senate, John McCain has earned the respect and admiration of a grateful nation," said former Senator Kasten in a statement released from the McCain campaign. "He governs from a set of core conservative principles. For more than two decades, he has fought tirelessly to bring transformative change to Washington. Now more than ever, John McCain is the leader we need. I am proud to support him in his campaign for president."

Kasten had endorsed former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani initially, and served as a policy adviser for Giuliani's campaign.
