2:20 PM: Huckabee rallies supporters in Madison
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee took his presidential campaign to what he jokingly called "the conservative bastion of Wisconsin" in downtown Madison this morning.
Speaking to hundreds at a morning rally at the Concourse Hotel, Huckabee urged supporters to ignore pundits who have called the Republican race for John McCain.
"A lot of them have said there's no point in any of you going to vote Tuesday," Huckabee said. "It's not their decision to make. It's yours."
Huckabee added that although he trails in delegates, the most important aspect of his campaign was his message.
"It's not just about winning the elections," Huckabee said of why he got into politics in the first place. He elaborated on that message by promoting his "fair tax" proposal to shift to a national sales tax and declaring himself the only remaining presidential candidate to support a human life amendment to the federal constitution.
Huckabee added that he is the only remaining candidate to serve as an executive, declaring that the decisions he made as governor of Arkansas affected families every day.
"Senators don't have to make things work," he said.
