12:37 PM: Hillary Clinton says she's better foe for McCain
Hillary Clinton told reporters today she has better credentials to go toe-to-toe with John McCain on national defense than Barack Obama while swiping at her Dem opponent for offering few details.
Clinton said during a teleconference that McCain and Republicans will do everything they can to make the general election about national security and said she was better prepared for that debate.
"I don't have to take a back seat to anyone in terms of my commitment to protect our country," Clinton said.
She said McCain has acknowledged he isn't very well versed on the economy and insisted she's also better positioned to challenge him there as well.
Clinton also continued the campaign's new line of attack on Obama, saying she offers solutions, not speeches.
"I have proven results and solutions," she said. "There's a big difference between making a speech and offering solutions and creating results for people. I can go toe-to-toe with John McCain."
She continued to call on Obama to agree to a Wisconsin debate before Tuesday's primary and suggested he doesn't want to meet one-on-one because he wants to avoid tough questions and knows she went on to win California after their last meeting.
Clinton was in Ohio today and will make her first appearance in the state Saturday, remaining here until Tuesday. She defended her decision to visit Texas and Ohio, which hold their primaries March 4, this week, saying she'd be in Wisconsin today if Obama would agree to a debate.
