1:27 PM: DPW sells out ballroom for Founder's Day Dinner
The Democratic Party of Wisconsin has sold out the 1,700-person ballroom at the Midwest Airlines Center in Milwaukee for Saturday's Founder's Day Dinner and is now selling tickets for the overflow room, chair Joe Wineke said today.
Wineke said he wasn't sure yet what the haul will be for the event, which will feature speeches from Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama. Still, he said the party sold a "gazillion" tables at $2,000 each and has sold out pre-reception tickets at $250 apiece. Single tickets went for $100 each.
Tickets for the overflow room are going for $50 apiece and $15 for students, and Wieneke said both candidates are expected to work the room at some point Saturday. Wieneke predicted a crowd in the 2,200 to 2,400 range.
"It's going to be a very good night to be chairman of the Democratic Party and a very good night for our bank account," Wineke said in a conference call with reporters.
Wieneke said the only down side to the event is that "it's not cheap" to rent the Midwest Airlines Center.
Wineke, a super delegate, also told reporters he has not decided who he will back in the race. He said if he makes a decision, he will not announce before Sunday in deference to both candidates for attending Saturday night.
