UW votes
The commitee voted unanimously for alternatives A1, B1, C2 on budget paper 805.
Rep. Vos moved to delete the $15 million Gov. Doyle recommended for UW System faculty recruitment and retention, but that was defeated on a party-line vote. (Budget paper 806. With no other motions, the governor's position prevailed.
Guv's position adopted on budget paper 807 regarding funding for the Wisconsin Institute for Discovery.
Alternative A2 from budget paper 808 was adopted, plus an additional $100,000 was added for UW-Green Bay's Environmental Management and Business Institute.
Governor's position on budget paper 809 regarding the Wisconsin Genomics Initiative was adopted.
A motion to delete a provision to create a school of public health at UW-Milwaukee failed 14-2 (Vos and Montgomery). The provision was then passed 14-2. (budget paper 810.
More good news for UW-M: the School of Freshwater Sciences will be created there. (budget paper 811) The provision passed unanimously despite some concerns from Rep. Colon over where it will be located.
