They're back - prevailing wage debate
Going into prevailing wage now.
Sen. Olsen has an amendment to raise the threshold to $100,000. The Dems have proposed $25,000. The guv proposed $2,000.
The current threshold is $200,000.
Sen. Hansen said that changing the threshold would violate the agreement, and urges rejection.
Rep. Montgomery tries to ask Sen. Hansen who negotiated the agreement. He said that municipality leaders in his district are concerned about the impact of the proposal.
"They got to be at the table and I did not as a member of the committee," he said.
Rep. Pocan said the committee members negotiated the deal, but that groups like the Wisconsin REALTORS Assocation and operating engineers are supporting it. He asked those in the audience who support it to raise their hands.
Rep. Vos says that implementing prevailing wage will make construction costs skyrocket, but Rep. Mason, who is now holding his infant daughter in his arms, says those are scare tactics that aren't backed up by facts.
Olsen's motion fails 12-4 on a party-line vote.
