Official newspaper posting requirement eliminated
A motion from Rep. Sherman to end the requirement that state agencies and constitutional offices provide legal notices in the official state newspaper -- the Wisconsin State Journal -- and instead place the information on the agency's respective Web sites passed 12-4.
Rep. Vos said there is a very similar bill from GOP Rep. Mark Gottlieb that he supports, but that this policy should not be decided in the budget. There should be a public hearing on the change, he said.
Sherman said the move saves some money, and added that "many more people look at the Internet than newspapers these days."
The motion did not include a fiscal note on how much money would be saved.
