Done today, tomorrow a casual day
Today's meeting is a wrap. Sen. Miller said tomorrow's meeting was necessitated by the hiatus the committee took to make budget adjustments for the $1.6 billion additional deficit. And he promised tomorrow will be a casual day because of the holiday.
"We'll see if the Fiscal Bureau can actually find some casual clothes to wear," he said.
Before the committee adjourned, they took up a few stand-alone motions relating to the UW-System:
- $50,000 was allocated from the Department of Commerce's Wisconsin Development Fund to fund the WiSys Technology Foundation Inc. The motion passed unanimously.
- The UW System Board of Regents was directed to ensure that $170,000 annually be allocated for a collaborative nursing program operated by UW-Rock County, UW-Oshkosh and Blackhawk Tech. The motion passed unanimously.
- The number of students who can receive nonresident tuition exemptions at UW-Parkside was increased from 200 to 300 at UW-Parkside and from 150 to 225 at UW-Superior under the Tuition Award Program. To be eligible for the program, a student must be enrolled in a program that has been identified by the institution as having excess capacity. This motion passed unanimously as well.
The committee is scheduled to come back tomorrow at 10 a.m.
